Roger Walter Strickland, 72, of Fair Bluff, NC, died Saturday, February 6, 2021, at McLeod Loris Hospital in Loris, SC. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Spring Branch Baptist Church, Nichols, SC with Pastor Hal Bilbo and Rev. Neil Smith officiating.
Roger was born on December 10, 1948, in Whiteville to the late Seth and Maxine Strickland. He graduated from West Columbus High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam.
Roger was a sergeant in the Whiteville Police Department. He later retired from the Dorothea Dix Hospital Police Department.
Roger was known for his artwork around the region and for his involvement in the Watermelon Festival. He was a member of American Legion Post #204 in Fair Bluff.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Strickland and Guy Strickland.
Roger is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lisa Stanley Strickland; son, Jonathan Seth Strickland of Bayboro, SC; stepmother, Veronica Sue Strickland of Cerro Gordo; two sisters, Patricia Jolly of Tabor City and Veronica Strickland Soles of Whiteville; and a granddaughter, Amanda Lee Strickland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Veterans Memorial Park of America, Inc., P.O. Box 2046, Whiteville, NC 28472.
Due to COVID restrictions, mask will be required in church.
