Jacqueline (Rogers) Scott

Dr. Jacqueline Rogers Scott passed away peacefully at Scotia Village Presbyterian Home in Laurinburg, NC, on Monday, January 12, 2015. Dr. Scott was born July 18, 1927 to Hubert N. Rogers, Sr. and Vernon Townsend Rogers of Fair Bluff. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, H.N. Rogers, Jr. and her loving and dedicated husband of 58 years, Jimmie A. Scott, Sr.

     “Miss Jackie” was a career teacher of English and U.S. History and later a guidance counselor

in the Columbus County School System. She also taught at UNC Pembroke as an adjunct professor.

She brought her love of learning to her classrooms and shared it with family and friends, advising that “No one can take away your education.” She held degrees from Mars Hill Jr. College, UNC-Chapel Hill (BA), East Carolina University (MA) and NCSU (EdD).

    Her greatest love was for her family and many friends. Her strong parenting skills led her to be an exceptional mother. She is survived by Kay S. Bullard (John) of Southern Pines, Jimmie A. Scott, Jr. (Robin) of Chadbourn, Mark R. Scott (Ann) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Neil T. Scott and Gregory D. Scott (Elizabeth) of Fair Bluff; grandchildren Scott W. Bullard (Shannon) and John Patrick Bullard (Katrina), Jennifer S. Andersen (Kenny), William Paul Scott (Olivia), SSgt. USAF Justin Kyle Scott (Jenna), Christina S. Jenkins (Ryan), Mary Beth S. Hayes (Zack), and Caroline O. Scott; great-grandchildren: Judson, Desmond, Campbell and Walker Bullard; Braden, Reid and Evan Andersen; Natasha and Marley Scott; Parker and Prestyn Hayes; and a new addition expected in August.

Other close family members are cousin Barbara N. Wilson of Raleigh, nieces Marian Scott, Caroline S. Ellington, Beth R. Thorndyke, and nephew Hugh Rogers, III, and Dennis Farmer, our “other brother”.

     Miss Jackie also loved her family of friends and loving caregivers at Scotia Village. She was so happy during her residence there, and she gave thanks daily for them.

    There will be a visitation at Scotia Village, 2200 Elm Avenue Laurinburg NC 28352: Friday, January 16, from 5-7 p.m., and at Fair Bluff United Methodist Church on Saturday, Jan.17, from 1-2:45 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the church, burial will follow in the Powell Cemetery.
