Hilda Gray Brown Ellis, born December 18, 1934, met her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 22, 2020. She was the only daughter of the late Coy and Lizzie Brown and was preceded in death by her husband William Collie "W.C.", and sons Jerry Anthony and Mark Alan Ellis.
After marriage, Hilda became a 77-year member of the Fair Bluff Baptist Church. She worked with the Kindergarten program at Fair Bluff Baptist Church for many years and retired with the North Carolina Public School System as a Kindergarten Assistant.
Hilda loved to "put up" vegetables and fruits, make jellies, try new recipes, and bake cakes and pies. Hilda would beam with pride if one bragged on her cooking. She could be counted on to feed and visit those in the community who were sick, and to prepare and deliver meals to the church as occasions arose. Hilda always made sure preparations were in order for her husband’s Men’s Sunday School Class and she found great joy in making sure the gentlemen were all well fed when they held their annual fish fry at their home.
Hilda is survived by her eldest son, William Terrell Ellis and his wife Shelia, their sons Nicholas and Madison, the late Jerry Ellis’ sons Drake and Tucker Ellis, Connie Ellis, Tim Berry, Erica McKeithan, and three great-grandchildren; Emma Grace, Lily and Carson.
Family and friends may visit the home of Terrell and Shelia Ellis in the Hinson’s Crossroads Community prior to the graveside service to be held on Tuesday, February 25 at 11:00 am at Powell’s Cemetery in Fair Bluff.
All may sign the guestbook at the home of Terrell and Shelia Ellis, at graveside, or mearesfuneralhome.com.
Services are entrusted to Meares Funeral Home.
