Danny Ray Strickland, 72 of Cerro Gordo, NC passed away on Sunday March 29, 2020 at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital. He was born August 21, 1947.
Danny was the “baby boy” of Bob and Mollie Strickland. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Mary Jo Strickland and his daughters Michelle Strickland, Mrs. Tiffany Rapelye and husband Gene and Dana Strickland. He was called “Daddy” by his children. He was called “Poppy” by his grandchildren Heather Nance (Brandon), Charlton Williamson (Ashley), Victoria Williamson (Ray), Tess Strickland and Emma Grace Strickland. He was blessed to have one great grandchild Addison Grate. Danny also leaves a sister Nellie Mae Richardson along with numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents he was proceeded in death by his brothers Elmore, Rudolph, Reginald, Thomas, Robert, and FB Strickland.
Danny a life-long farmer was known to enjoy the outdoors. He continued to ride his tractor and plant a yearly garden in which he liked to share his produce with family and friends. He was well known as the “sausage man” by many who enjoyed his homemade sausage as well as his BBQ. And if you saw him in his truck you would also see his “fur-babies” Roxie and Jack.
A private graveside service will be held at Cherry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 2:00 pm, due to the COVID-19 with invitation only. The Rev. Rusty Davis and Mr. Richard Williamson to officiate.
