William Preston King, age 85, of Fair Bluff departed this earth into the waiting arms of his Savior on November 23, 2019. William King, affectionately known as “Bill”, was born in Hartsville, South Carolina to the late Robert P. King and Annie Lou Prince. He graduated from Fair Bluff High School and went onto further his education by attending N.C. State University, graduating in 1957. Because of Bill’s love of country, he joined the Army and honorably served until his discharge a few years later. Eventually, Bill became a district manager of Commercial Credit Equipment in Atlanta, Georgia and retired in 1999. Soon thereafter, Bill and Nancy returned to their roots and made their home in Fair Bluff, North Carolina.
Bill was a consummate gardener, planting and reaping the vegetables he grew. Bill was known for giving away vegetables to friends in the community. In earlier times Bill loved fishing, spending time with his farming friends, and raising cattle. He was a shrewd businessman and was successful in many of his endeavors. His love for God was most evident and he was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Fair Bluff. Above all, Bill was a family man, cherishing his wife and children and his extended family.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Nancy McNeill King, two daughters, Kathy Shropshire and husband, Michael, Susan Hill and husband Chris, and a brother Robert “Bobby” King and wife Carolyn; three grandchildren, Jared Campbell and wife Holly, Meghan Murray and husband, Allen, and Sydney Hill; and also two beloved great grandchildren, Raegan Murray and Jackson Campbell.
Bill's death was preceded by a sister, Elizabeth Ann White of Monroe, North Carolina.
