David Christopher Edwards, 56, of Columbia, SC entered eternal rest on January 23, 2017.  David is predeceased by his parents Guilford Edwards II and Norma Juliet (Paredes) Edwards and son David C. Edwards II.

David is survived by his loving wife Wilaiphan Phattaro (Penny); daughter Elysia Edwards (Demareo Mingo); and 2 grandchildren Brielle and Myles Mingo. David is lovingly remembered by his brothers Joseph Edwards (Julia), Guilford Edwards III (Lisa); sister Sabrina Mennella (Nick); nieces Isabella Mennella, Emily Edwards, and nephew Ethan Edwards.

David was born in Fresno, California on October 19, 1960.  He attended school in Fresno, CA as well as Fair Bluff, NC.  David grew up in Cerro Gordo on the Edwards Farm and worked in the tobacco fields.  David’s next venture had him blazing trails as he cruised across America as a JB Hunt long distance truck driver.  After the birth of his son and daughter, David changed careers and entered the world of fire safety & prevention for the next 27 years.

In 2011, David and Penny took a leap of faith and started their own company, Absolute Fire & Safety, which became a huge success.  Their company was based in Columbia, SC and expanded to a statewide network.  We are all so proud of their accomplishments and the many lives and businesses that are protected by their chosen career path.

David had a deep love for family and friends.  Life was never dull with David around.  He never met a stranger.

One of his passions, shared by the majority of the Edwards clan, was his love of great food.  It was not unusual to receive a phone call from David, sharing with you in great detail what he was cooking for dinner.  You could always hear the joy in his voice, anticipating the first bite of his gourmet meal.  If you listened closely you could actually hear him smacking his lips and know he was really going to enjoy his culinary creation.  His love of food and family started with those Sunday dinners that we all enjoyed so much.

David loved going to the beach and shagging to great beach music.  NASCAR racing was also at the top of his “favorites” list.  You could always call David and get an update on world news, as he was addicted to the news channel.  He was often the life of party and he will be that bright spark missing in our future gatherings.  He had a deep faith in God and told us many times he looked forward to joining his heavenly family, especially to reunite with his son.

The last year of David’s life is a great testament to us all.  He worked full time until a few months before his death, even though he was in extreme pain.  He negotiated a deal to sell his company, Absolute Fire & Safety.  He married beautiful Penny on the Edwards Farm and was still giving orders to complete every little detail to make sure his affairs were in order and Penny was taken care of. We will miss “Super Dave” and all the joy he brought to each of us.

David loved his church and requested that memorials be sent to the Fair Bluff Baptist Church Flood Restoration Fund 1205 Main Street Fair Bluff, NC 28439 (910-649-5575).
